Arguably the first, and one of the very few saxophonists playing in the Singapore club scene, Kaye's love for Jazz has branched into adventures with underground dance music. A Jazz influenced musician, Kaye's roots have led him to play with the dominating sound of today - electronic music. Being one of the first to cross over from the live music scene to the club scene means that he has built his niche in and around clubs, which is also the main reason why he has played with almost all of the respected DJs in Singapore, and many more from around the world. Kaye is still in touch with the live scene, but it is the live/electronic hybrid scene that gives him the most inspiration these days. His profile with international DJs/Live acts includes having performed with: - Reel People Sessions (including Oli Lazarus, UK) Kaye is a staunch believer in spontaneity and "catching the moment", which he knows can be easily achieved when working with the right DJs and not just with other musicians. On the more corporate side, Kaye has played at events for big fashion, jewellery and luxury watch labels like: - Agnes B He has also played at post event parties for: - Singapore Fashion Festival and numerous outdoor dance festivals such as: - Baybeats 2006 (Esplanade) Kaye has also performed at countless parties for the Heineken Green Room Sessions and even headlined a Heineken Green Room Session gig with his DJ partner Dean (Dance&Soul) in Penang (2003). They have also headlined a party in Jakarta’s MannaHouse Club (2004). Finally, Kaye has also played at events for other prestigious brands and companies, listed below: Moving into DJ-ing recently, Kaye dishes out quality Jazz infused dance music and old school disco boogie, soul and funk. Though his DJ-ing experience relatively short, he has warmed up for Fantastic Plastic Machine and also gotten the thumbs up from Dave Angel and Tyler Askew (Rude Movements, NYC)! Also a producer, Kaye is working on his own stylized form of dance music, heavily relying on his Jazz roots for inspiration and direction in a genre that is known to most as "soul-less". His original material has been featured on compilations from Universal and IO Music, and has done production work for Nokia, Arts Central (Frequency of the City Seasons 1 & 2), as well as mini projects for radio shows (Zouk Radio, Lush 99.5). Works are currently in progress with his partner, Dean, on an album (where they are known as Cosa Nostra). |
